Lexon Orbe cordless lamp: French magnetic rotation and 48-hour battery life

Created in France by industrial design house Lexon, the Orbe cordless table lamp pairs a weighted conical base with a detachable, 360-degree rotating magnetic light sphere. Delivering 100 lumens across seven LED colour temperatures and up to 48 hours of battery life per USB-C charge, its IPX4 splash-resistant shell works across bookshelves, reading desks, and outdoor tables.

Traditional reading lamps have a rigid metal neck that shines light in one fixed spot, tethered by a black cable to the nearest wall socket. Founded in Paris in 1991 by René Adda, Lexon approached portable lighting by looking at the classic French bilboquet (cup-and-ball) children’s toy.

Three ways the magnetic sphere adapts to the room

1. 360-degree directional swivelling on the base: The matte polycarbonate light globe rests inside the concave rim of the base, held in place by an internal neodymium magnet. You can roll the sphere with two fingers to aim a focused reading beam onto your book, or turn it toward a plaster wall to create soft, indirect bounce lighting.
2. Detached portable nightlight: Because the LED array and rechargeable battery sit inside the upper sphere itself, you can lift the glowing ball right off the base and carry it into the kitchen or out onto the balcony without the stand.
3. One-button colour and brightness memory: Pressing the discreet button on the dome cycles through warm candle tones, neutral white reading light, and cool daylight (plus five colour accents), while holding the button down dims the brightness smoothly and remembers your last setting.
