Ohävn is an independent European home and lifestyle journal dedicated to durable household objects, regional interior aesthetics, and practical slow living.
You might be surprised to learn how many things you use every day actually have their roots here in Europe. From Italian espresso machines and French cast-iron cookware to German coffee mills and Nordic ceramics, our continent has spent centuries perfecting simple tools that do their job well. Yet many of these heritage makers stay hidden behind the noise of mass-market shopping malls.
Our goal is to document these objects and the way of living that surrounds them. We organise our work into three simple sections:

The meaning of Ohävn
Why have we picked the name Ohävn?
Havn is the Danish and Norwegian word for “harbour”. It represents a calm shelter from rough water, a starting point for voyages, and a safe place to return to when you are tired of the noise outside. O! is a simple exclamation of quiet wonder shared across many languages.
We think the modern internet feels a bit too much like a stormy sea of flashing banners and urgent sales pitches. Every curious person needs a calm home base – a quiet port where you can slow down, look at well-crafted things, and take your time.
Who is behind the journal
Ohävn is edited by Ann Thomsen, a Danish editor and lifestyle curator focusing on durable household objects, functional European interiors, and intentional slow living.
After years of working for a large American corporation, Ann decided she had seen enough spreadsheets, quarterly rush, and stress.
She relocated to the island of Funen in Denmark, where she now works with a small European team to independently discover and document design built to last more than one season.
We believe a home should feel lived-in and practical rather than a sterile showroom. Whether we are looking at a 100-year-old German percolator or a calm reading corner, we ask the same basic question – does this make daily life a little bit more sensible?
