Tefal infrared air fryer: carbon-fibre radiant heat and zero preheating

Tefal French infrared air fryer with illuminated front glass viewing window and die-cast crisping tray

Engineered in France with a 1700W carbon-fibre infrared heating element instead of a conventional metal coil, the Tefal Easy Fry Infrared air fryer reaches cooking temperature instantly without preheating.

Combining radiant heat waves with 360-degree airflow and an illuminated glass viewing window, it roasts and crisps across a 6-litre (1.4 kg) drawer without requiring you to shake the basket midway.

In 1954, French engineer Marc Grégoire fused PTFE onto aluminium fishing tackle in his Paris suburb workshop, and his wife Colette suggested trying the technique on her frying pans. Two years later, they founded Tefal (a blend of Teflon and Aluminium, sold as T-fal in North America due to trademark rules).

Seventy years later, Tefal still approaches countertop cooking from a thermal engineering standpoint. This infrared model earns its spot in our guide to European kitchen appliances worth the counter space by solving the two biggest annoyances of standard air fryers: dry food and constant basket-shaking.

Quartz infrared heating vs standard metal coil air fryers

Preheating required0 minutes (instant radiant heat transfer)3 to 5 minutes before adding food
Moisture retentionPenetrates 2–3 mm below food surface; keeps centres juicyDries out the outer skin before heat reaches the core
Mid-cook shakingDual-direction airflow crisps top and bottom without shakingRequires pulling the drawer out to toss food every 8 minutes

Why the illuminated window saves energy

Every time you pull open a standard air fryer drawer to check whether your potatoes or salmon fillets have browned, a blast of 200°C air escapes into the kitchen and the thermostat has to work overtime to recover.

With Tefal’s double-walled front glass and dedicated interior light button, the cooking chamber stays sealed from start to finish. Inside sits a removable die-cast metal crisping grid coated in PFOA-free non-stick enamel that goes straight into the dishwasher.

This practical T-fal / Tefal infrared air fryer is available on Amazon, as well.
