Standing 20 centimetres tall with a 15-centimetre diameter, the Bloomingville cane-sleeve vase pairs a clear cylindrical soda-lime glass vessel with a removable, hand-woven natural rattan jacket. Designed in Denmark, the open octagonal cane webbing softens the glare of bare glass and filters afternoon window light across wooden tables.
Decorating a room with only smooth surfaces – glass tables, painted plaster walls, and metal lamp stands – makes the space feel cold and acoustic. On the other hand, filling a room with heavy rustic baskets can quickly make an apartment look like a country barn.
Founded in Denmark in 2000 by Betina Stampe, Bloomingville solved that material balance by slipping a light, structured rattan webbing over a clean glass cylinder.
You still see the water level and the green stems inside the glass, while the dry natural cane adds warmth to the table in our European style living room decor guide and our Tuscandi interior style blend.
Practical advantages of the two-piece sleeve construction
- Effortless sink cleaning: Anyone who has owned a permanently woven wicker-wrapped bottle knows that getting tap water on the reed eventually turns the fibres grey and musty. On the Bloomingville vase, the woven cane cylinder slides straight off the bottom so you can scrub the clear glass insert with hot soapy water while keeping the rattan completely dry.
- Stable 15 cm proportion: At 20 cm high and 15 cm wide, the wide footprint holds spreading garden bouquets, eucalyptus branches, or tall dried pampas grass without tipping.
- Two vases in one: In summer, you can use the bare glass cylinder on its own for fresh-cut hydrangeas and use the woven cane sleeve separately as a dry desk tidy or candle hurricane.
